Record breaking bad weather….and at least the ice is out. Maybe a good time to clean the gear and organize things for a possible 90-degree day next week. Only in Minnesota.

What a great tourney celebrating our military and their families. A live webcast to Afganistan allowed for families to fish together which was so cool! And Thank You to the Fishing For Life Team for welcoming us and taking time to give us some great tips! It was a beautiful day, and talked with many military and friends -- so most of all we’d like to thank them for their service and sacrifice...(and their fishing tips!). Great fun to be with Larry Magen on ACORN.TV -- ! Our next mission is to get him out on the lakes...(he's from Los Angeles!). Hard to believe as we listen back on this that it's almost been 1-year since we started Two Chicks & A Rod. Thanks for your support everyone! Click the logo or copy/paste this for the video stream: http://www.livestream.com/acornlive/video?clipId=pla_61bf1e1f-e4b5-479a-afec-0eef0aaa3d0a Finally! A show on TV that features Women in Sports...EXTREME SPORTS. And although Two Chicks is not that extreme (!) they love our concept of spreading the word on how to fish. Someday soon the very talented and very extreme host, Theresa, is going to take us fishing and show us her stuff. Until then, tune in to see other amazing women in outdoor sports. The show will begin to air on FOX Affiliate late July...we'll keep updates with when segments begin to air. In the meantime be on the lookout as they feature women in hunting, motocross, rodeo -- and a lil' fishin' too! Look Close...I hooked a brand new Rapala lure into my finger! Was helping my son get a double treble hook (?) out of a floppy bass on the dock. Went in like butter! Be careful out there...we will definitely do a segment on safe hook removal soon. Until then, know where the ER is and hope to have a good wing-man like Luc (he bit through the line and kept me and the fish calm!) Happy 4th of July!! We visited the Leech Lake Walleye Tournament in Walker, MN and got some great Walleye tips! Thanks to everyone for being so generous with your time and tips, and to WCCO's Mark Rosen for giving us a quick interview! Biggest Tip: "Jig and a Minnow, Jig and a Minnow" We'll be back again next year! Check out the video. Surprised our Dad today and brought him fishing at the Lake Harriet fishing pier for his birthday! We didn't catch much, (anything) but he perfected our one handed casting technique, told us about how to select some lures and was impressed with the "crappie slayer". We fished alongside a little boy, age 5 with his Dad and brother who caught a HUGE carp on his kiddie pole! It was an adventure getting it reeled in and fun to watch his excitement when it finally came up.
Another fun day of fishing, Happy Birthday Dad!! His tip: "bring your Grandchildren fishing"..... (we questioned why he didn't say "bring your Daughters fishing", but he just shrugged and mumbled something) Wow! Thank you to Waconia and the many people/companies/organizations involved in making the 2012 opener so fantastic! And thank you for including Two Chicks & A Rod as we were honored to be among 110 host-boats on the lake today...and it proved to be great fishing adventure.
6:30 AM -- We pulled the boat to Lola's Lakehouse for a delicious breakfast buffet (what was in those eggs?!) 8:00 AM -- Two Chicks & A Rod (Heidi & Heather) were interviewed by Kate Renner of Channel 5 for their live broadcast just prior to the official Governor's send-off. (thanks Kate!) 9:00 AM -- Met fishing legend Dan Gapen, and he kindly agreed to be filmed (check out the video) 9:30 AM -- We met up with our Guest, City Council Member Larry Millender, and headed out to do some damage. 10:15 AM -- After riding weed line -- and lots of fishing savvy from Larry -- Heather lands a monster Crappie! 10:45 AM -- Heidi lands an even bigger one! (but only after letting one get away due to attention troubles) 12:00 PM -- Arrived at Waconia Beach for a fantastic walleye shore lunch! -- Yum! 1:00 PM -- After many photos, conversations and lots of note taking about 'best fishing tips' we headed home with a new appreciation of how fishing brings people, family & community together. Thank you Waconia and everyone involved in the 2012 Governor's Fishing opener! See you next year! Reel 'em in!...We (yes, Heidi & Heather) will be at the Governor's Fishing opener on Lake Waconia Sat, May 12th as a Host Boat. We'll launch the big boat and be ready to show beautiful Lake Waconia to our yet-to-be-determined fishing partners. We plan lots of fun, plus much showing off of our BIG catch... (fingers-crossed, double).
